Jean François Théodore Gechter 1796-1844. St. John the Evangelist with his symbol of an eagle. Signed 'GECHTER scptr'. There is a late nineteenth century version with an oval base and a foundry mark. This has no foundry mark and as Gechter made and signed the moulds for his bronzes as well as organizing the casting and marketing this must be an original circa 1835 century figure from his atelier. Good overall patination, some rubbing on the nose and top of the hair.
